Choosing the right tools

Which tools suit my brewing method?
For pour-over, start with a dripper, matching paper filters, a gooseneck kettle and a scale. For espresso at home, a tamper, milk pitcher and scale make the biggest difference. For plunger or cold brew, a scale and a good grinder will improve your cup most.
I'm just getting started. What should I buy first?
A scale and a burr grinder. Weighing your coffee and water, and grinding fresh just before you brew, make a bigger difference to taste than any other upgrade. Add a brewer or barista tools once you know how you like to drink your coffee.
Do I really need a coffee scale?
If you want consistent coffee, yes. Scoops and spoons vary a lot depending on the bean and roast, so a scale is the easiest way to repeat a cup you love. Many coffee scales also have a built-in timer for pour-over and espresso shots.
Do I need a grinder if I buy ground coffee?
Not to get started — we can grind our beans for espresso, filter or plunger when you order. But coffee loses aroma quickly once it's ground, so a burr grinder is the best way to get the most flavour from fresh beans. Burr grinders give a much more even grind than blade grinders.

Our coffee & your tools

Which LygonCoffee blend works best with my brewer?
Our OmniSoul Blend is a medium “omni” roast, made to taste great across every brew method — espresso, pour-over, plunger and cold brew. Expect chocolate and nutty notes with a smooth, balanced finish, with or without milk.
Can you grind the beans to suit my brewer?
Yes. Choose whole beans, or have OmniSoul ground for espresso, filter or plunger when you order. If you own a grinder, whole beans will stay fresher for longer.
How fresh is the coffee?
We roast in small batches in Adelaide and cup every batch before it ships, so your beans arrive fresh. Store them in an airtight container away from heat, light and moisture — not in the fridge.
Can I get my coffee delivered regularly?
Yes. Choose Subscribe & Save on the OmniSoul page to save 10% and have beans delivered every 2, 4 or 6 weeks. For offices or heavy users, our 6 kg Bulk Box is our best-value size.

Sizing & compatibility

How do I check size and compatibility?
Each product page lists capacity and dimensions. Check that your dripper and filter papers are the same size, that a milk pitcher clears your machine's steam wand, and that cups fit under your machine's spout. Send us your machine or brewer model and we'll confirm the fit before you order.
Which tamper size fits my espresso machine?
Tampers are sized to your portafilter basket. Measure across the inside of the basket, or check your machine's manual. 58 mm is common on commercial-style machines, while many home machines use 51, 53 or 54 mm. A tamper should sit snugly in the basket with only a very small gap around the edge.
What size milk pitcher should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, a 350 ml pitcher suits one milk drink at a time and a 600 ml pitcher suits two. A smaller jug gives you more control for latte art; a larger one is handy if you make several drinks in a row.

Water & care

Why use a water filter for coffee?
Coffee is around 98% water, so the water you use shapes the taste. A filter reduces chlorine and off-flavours, and helps cut scale build-up inside kettles and espresso machines — which protects your equipment and keeps it running at the right temperature.
How often should I replace my water filter?
It depends on the filter, how much coffee you make and how hard your local water is. Each filter is rated by capacity or months of use — check the product page or the manufacturer's guidance, and replace it sooner if you notice scale or a change in taste.
How often should I clean my espresso machine?
As a general guide: rinse the group head and wipe the steam wand after every use, backflush with water daily if your machine allows it, clean with a coffee machine detergent weekly, and descale as your manufacturer recommends. Regular cleaning keeps the coffee tasting clean and avoids costly repairs.
